Kaltura Capture is a tool that Kaltura provides for students and instructors to be able to record video and audio media for projects and courses. This guide will show you how to install Capture on your device. Please review Kaltura Capture's technical requirements to ensure your device meets these minimum requirements before installing Kaltura Capture on your device.

Installing Personal Capture from My Media

  1. Navigate to your My Media page in Canvas.
  2. On your My Media page, click the Add New button in the upper right and then select Kaltura Capture.
  3. This takes you to the Kaltura Capture Desktop Recorder screen. Under the "Using Kaltura for the first time?" section, select either Download for Windows or Download for Mac, depending on your computer. This will begin the download process.
  4. Once you have finished downloading the Capture installer file (named "KalturaCapture_<version_id>.msi") onto your computer, run it directly from the download dialog box on your browser. (Don't worry, it's safe!) In Google Chrome, this appears in the lower-left.
  5. If you are not given a download dialog box, it is likely that this installer file was put into your computer's Downloads folder or directly on your Desktop. Find the file and double-click it to run the Kaltura Capture Setup Wizard.
  6. Click Next in the Kaltura Capture Setup Wizard.
  7. You can opt to use a different folder for your recordings, however, it is not necessary and is much simpler to use the default folder Kaltura creates and click Next.
  8. Select the Install button to begin the installation of Kaltura Personal Capture on your computer. It may take several minutes for the installation process to finish running.
  9. Once the installation process is complete, click Finish.

  10. Kaltura's Capture recorder is now installed on your computer.

To open Capture on your computer:

  1. Navigate to your My Media page in Canvas.
  2. Click the Add New button in the upper right and select Kaltura Capture.
  3. Depending on your browser, Personal Capture may launch automatically from here, or open a prompt first. If it opens a prompt, select the option to "Open" or "Proceed" so that your computer can launch the program:

Now, it's time to learn how to use Kaltura Capture!
