FAMU-FSU Engineering Instructors: How to find courses you are teaching in Canvas

Because of the way that the FAMU and FSU Canvas systems work together, you will likely see several empty course templates that will not be used. In order to avoid confusion, we recommend that you "favorite" the real course sites that you will be using to teach so that only those courses display on your Dashboard.

Figuring out which course is the real course

The courses that will be published and your students will have access to contain "COMBINED" in capital letters and the course name is written in all capital letters as well. Here is an example of what you will see on your Canvas Dashboard:

In this example, the course card on the right is the actual course that you would use because the title is "MASS AND ENERGY BALANCES II" and the course ID is "ECH3024.02.COMBINED.SPR2019." The course card on the left is the empty course template that you will not be using.

Customizing your Dashboard to only display your real courses

Now that you know which course is the real course, it is best to "favorite" that course so that the empty course template is removed from your Canvas Dashboard. You can do this from your All Courses page.

  1. Select Courses on the garnet global navigation menu on the left, then select All Courses from the menu that appears.
  2. On the All Courses page, click the starts to the left of the course(s) that you want to display on your Dashboard. The stars you click on will turn orange.
Keep in mind: The course ID containing "COMBINED" is not visible on the All Courses page, so you will need to look for the courses that are named with all capital letters.
