  • 11/22/2024: Canvas Outage 500 Page Error [RESOLVED] Resolved [Posted 11/22/2024 at 1:29 pm ET] At 12:43 pm on 11/22/2024 Instructure reports the incident has been resolved.  For the full timeline of the error, please see the Canvas System Status Page. Cidi Labs DesignPLUS is an upgrade to Design Tools (Legacy). DesignPLUS was developed to help you create and style course content while easily upgrading any of your existing content. DesignPLUS includes rich content editor tools, the Multi-tool, and the Upload/Embed Image Tool.

 

The DesignPLUS Sidebar is available to use in content pages, assignments, discussion descriptions, Classic Quiz descriptions, Syllabus pages, and announcements.

 

NOTE: By default, DesignPLUS is not activated in Canvas. The legacy version of Design Tools by Cidi Labs is still the default and any design elements in your Canvas course sites will remain unchanged.

Activating the new Sidebar

To activate the new Sidebar, visit any page with a rich content editor (RCE) mentioned above (content pages, assignments, discussion descriptions, Classic Quiz descriptions, Syllabus pages, and announcements). Click Edit to edit this page.

 

 

Launch the Sidebar

Click on the garnet Rocket Launcher icon in the upper right corner of the screen or use the keyboard shortcut to launch:

  • Windows: Alt + Shift + D
  • Mac: Option + Shift +D

 

 

Activate DesignPLUS Sidebar

Select 1. Settings (gear icon) of the Design Tools (Legacy) sidebar to bring up additional options. A popover will appear. Under the New DesignPLUS Sidebar Available! heading, click on 2. Try New Version to activate the new Sidebar.

 

 

Relaunch the Sidebar

The DesignPLUS Sidebar will close after activation. Relaunch the Sidebar by clicking on the garnet Rocket Launcher icon or using the keyboard shortcut.

 

 

Explore the new DesignPLUS Sidebar

With an upgraded layout, designing your page is easier than ever. Design components are easy to find and a search bar makes it easy to locate the option you're looking for.

 

 

 

Optional: Set DesignPLUS to Auto-Launch When Editing Pages

If you wish for the DesignPLUS Sidebar to launch automatically whenever you edit a page, click on the vertical stack of three dots icon in the upper right of the DesignPlus Sidebar and click User Settings.

 

 

Under the Launch Sidebar heading, check the box next to Automatically Launch Sidebar.

 

 

 

Optional: Revert back to Design Tools (Legacy)

If for any reason you wish to revert back to Design Tools (Legacy) after upgrading to DesignPLUS, you may do so through the DesignPLUS Sidebar Settings.

 

Click on the vertical stack of three dots icon in the upper right of the DesignPlus Sidebar and click User Settings.

 

 

Under User Settings, click the button Switch to the legacy sidebar to complete the transition.
