How to adjust due dates and availability dates in Canvas

Depending on how you have designed your course, you may need to adjust your assignment due dates, your assignment availability dates, or both. For more information on the differences between these dates, see What is the difference between assignment due dates and availability dates?

Adjust due date for Canvas Assignment

  1. Click into your course site.
  2. Click on the Assignments link on the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
  3. On the Assignments page, locate the assignment you wish to edit. Then, click on the assignment title.
  4. Click the Edit button in the upper right corner.
  5. On the Assignment's edit page, scroll down to the "Assign" area. In the "Assign" box, adjust the due date and/or available from and until dates as needed by clicking on the calendar icon next to these boxes.

    Once the calendar appears, select the new date and enter in a time of day if desired, then click the Done button.

     
  6. When your new due and availability dates have been selected, click the garnet Save button at the bottom of the page.

Adjust due date for Turnitin Assignment

  1. Click into your course site.
  2. Follow the directions in How do I change Turnitin settings for an assignment?

Adjust due date for Canvas Quiz

  1. Click into your course site.
  2. Click on the Quizzes link on the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
  3. On the Quizzes page, locate the quiz you wish to edit. Then, click on the quiz title.
  4. Click the Edit button in the upper right corner.
  5. On the Quiz's edit page, scroll down to the "Assign" area. In the "Assign" box, adjust the due date and/or available from and until dates as needed by clicking on the calendar icon next to these boxes.

    Once the calendar appears, select the new date and enter in a time of day if desired, then click the Done button.

     
  6. When your new due and availability dates have been selected, click the garnet Save button at the bottom of the page.

Adjust due date for Canvas Discussion item

  1. Click into your course site.
  2. Click on the Discussions link on the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
  3. On the Discussions page, locate the discussion item you wish to edit. Then, click on the discussion title.
  4. Click the Edit button in the upper right corner.
  5. On the discussion item's edit page, scroll down to the "Assign" area. In the "Assign" box, adjust the due date and/or available from and until dates as needed by clicking on the calendar icon next to these boxes.

    Once the calendar appears, select the new date and enter in a time of day if desired, then click the Done button.

     
  6. When your new due and availability dates have been selected, click the garnet Save button at the bottom of the page.
