Overview

BookShelf® by VitalSource allows instructors to sample digital textbooks from 750 different publishers. Students can access their textbooks from within Canvas course sites. VitalSource ensures textbooks are accessible for those with digital accessibility needs.

How to link your Canvas course with a BookShelf textbook

1. Navigate to the Modules area of your Canvas course site and click the individual + icon to the right of the desired module.
   
2. In the pop-up window that appears, select External Tool from the drop-down menu.
   
3. Select the Bookshelf by VitalSource option.
   
4. Delete the ending "book" portion of the external tool's URL and replace it with the ISBN number of your textbook. For example, in the images below, we have changed the ".../books/book" portion of the URL to ".../books/9781506356907"

5. Check the Load in a new tab checkbox.
6. Click Add Item.
7. Your Canvas site is now paired with your Bookshelf by VitalSource textbook!
