What is it?

The lightboard is a see-through “whiteboard” that instructors can use to produce video lectures where they can interact with notes and diagrams while facing their students.

The lightboard is constructed from a sheet of glass edged with LED lights. The scattering of light within the clear material makes any markings appear as if illuminated. The instructor is visible through the clear sheet while writing, drawing, and speaking. The recorded image is then flipped or mirrored in post-production.

Why use it?

  • The lightboard enhances instructor presence and connection with students and promotes greater engagement in the online classroom.
  • The tool is particularly useful for engineering and mathematics courses that involve complex equations, formulas, and diagrams.

Keep in mind

  • Use of the lightboard is by appointment only, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Instructors of distance learning courses will be given priority scheduling. To schedule an appointment, contact D.D. Garbarino, Media Production Administrator, at [email protected] or 850-644-7574
  • Please bring a FAT32 formatted 2GB USB drive.
  • For best results, wear a bright or light-colored shirt.
  • Please avoid wearing a shirt with a logo or printing. The logo or text will appear backward once the video is flipped in post-production.
  • Feel free to bring a script, notes, or PowerPoint presentation to assist in lecture delivery.
