Known Issue: iClicker issue with Sierra and High Sierra OS

For users with the MacOS Sierra or MacOS High Sierra, you will initially experience an issue when attempting to run the iClicker Classic program downloaded from our website. The issue stems from Apple's MacOS Sierra and MacOS High Sierra platforms: Neither OS version will accept a downloaded program that comes with supporting files and folders, and will instead give you the error message described below. While iClicker is currently researching a solution to this issue, a fix is not expected in the near future.

The error message reads:
"Error Writing to disk
Unable to create course sub-folders. Chances are that:

  • you do not have permission to write to the disk,
  • or the disk is full.

Course folder: [folder path here]
Please change your iclicker folder location or check with your system administrator. i>clicker must now close.
"

We have tested the workaround below and can confirm iClicker will work after following these steps:

  1. Create a new folder on your desktop, this folder will be for the iClicker software in following steps.
  2. Download iClicker 7 Mac OS Version from iClicker's website.
  3. Open the .dmg file that you just downloaded from the link above and move the iClicker application to the new folder you created in step 1.
  4. Run the iClicker application from your new folder created in step 1. Then, close the application. You might encounter an error message at this point, but if you ignore it and keep following the steps in this article, then this workaround will solve the issue.
  5. Delete the Resources folder (indicated by the red number 1 and red arrow in image below) in the iClicker folder created in step 1 and replace it with the Resources folder from the iClicker FSU folder downloaded from our FSU Canvas Support Center site (indicated by the blue number 2 and blue arrow indicated in the image below).
  6. Run the iClicker application again and proceed with course setup.
