05/01/2020: Canvas Rich Content Editor Upgrade

Canvas’s Rich Content Editor (RCE) is getting spruced up on May 4th for a more streamlined appearance and experience. But don’t worry – though it looks different it still has all the same functionality you are used to! The RCE is used everywhere you enter in text - so, in Canvas Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Pages, Quizzes, and the course Syllabus page. Watch this quick overview video to find out where all your favorite tools are now located.

Keep in mind: If the Design Tools menu automatically opens for you when you use the RCE, you may not see all of its buttons as easily.
To access all the RCE's functions you will need to click the three stacked dots just above the text box. If you are not using Design Tools, then you can close out its menu by clicking the X in the upper right corner of the screen to expand the RCE's button visibility.

One of the biggest changes for FSU users is that in order to add a Kaltura video, you have a couple more clicks than you're used to:

  1. Click the three stacked dots on the right and select the electrical plug "apps" icon.

  2. Select Embed Kaltura Media in the window that appears and proceed as usual!

If you're teaching a STEM course, we have good news: this update brings you improved rendering of mathematical equations in your Canvas course!
