This issue should now be resolved. If you continue to experience any trouble with the Canvas equation editor, please contact us. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused and thank you for your patience as Canvas engineers worked to resolve this issue.
Beginning on the evening of November 18, 2020, instructors may have begun to experience difficulty when using the Canvas equation editor to add equations to Quiz questions and Canvas Pages. After saving the quiz question so that you are no longer editing it, you are supposed to see the equation fully rendered. At present, this is not happening and you will instead see the equation's LaTeX notation:

We believe that this is related to the recent November 18th Canvas Deploy that was pushed out to all Canvas instances. We have submitted a ticket about this issue to Canvas Support. Canvas engineers are aware of this high priority issue and working to resolve it as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience that this causes you and your students.
In the meantime, to confirm that the equations in your Canvas quizzes will render properly for your students, we recommend previewing your quiz before making it available to your students. How to preview your Canvas quiz questions:
You can navigate away from this quiz preview page at any time without submitting the preview. You should now see your equations rendered:
